Gary Zerola Faces Rape Charges

Gary Zerola Rape Charges - Gary was once one of People Magazine’s most eligible bachelors. Now he can be one of the most eligible bachelors in prison. The 36-year-old Boston defense attorney was arrested on Friday for allegedly drugging and then raping a college student in the Florida area.

Sadly, the Gary Zerola rape charge doesn’t come as a huge shock, because he is already facing charges in Boston for two sexual attacks there.  Sorry Gary I know that in this country you’re innocent until proven guilty, but these charges are really starting to stack up. Here are some of the recent charges that happened before the latest alleged Gary Zerola rape:

November 2006 - Indicted on charges of rape, indecent assault and battery, and procuring alcohol for a minor. (Suffolk County, Mass.)

2006 - Attack on a 19-year-old woman.

Zerola — a former prosecutor with Suffolk County — forced her back into the apartment and ‘’slammed her head off a wall,” Lawyers Weekly reported, citing police reports.

It gets to a point where it’s hard to give the benefit of doubt doesn’t it? I don’t know what to say about this guy other than I hope that this stuff isn’t true. I feel terrible for the women and hope that if the allegations are true, Gary Zerola gets exactly what he deserves.

Neumann Homes Bankruptcy

With the Neumann Homes bankruptcy news coming out earlier today, one has to wonder how many builders will face similar fates. The cool housing market has made it really difficult for home builders to secure financing for their operations.
Neumann Homes said in a company press release that they were “unable to procure adequate funding” to run the business. It seems that many other builders will face similar difficulties for at least the next few quarters.
The Neumann Homes bankruptcy comes as somewhat of a shock, since they were one of the top ten home builders in the Chicago area. The company said that their lenders were able to help them quite a bit this year, but in the end it just wasn’t enough!

Most of the Neumann Homes employees have already been laid off, and those who have already paid earnest money for homes that haven’t been built will be issued refunds through the bankruptcy court. Let’s hope that happens.

People this is just sad! I have to say that it’s pretty scary for those that are building homes. I have a few friends who own home building companies and they’re having a hard time right now. Let’s hope that the housing market turns around fast so that this business type doesn’t go too sour.

Wildcat Canyon San Diego Evacuations

My heart goes out to all of the residents of San Diego, where more than 700 homes have already been lost. Over 250,000 acres have now been consumed, and officials believe that the destruction is just the beginning as the forecast says that today’s Santa Ana gusts continue strong.

At dawn this morning, officials issued a mandatory evacuation order of about 3,800 homes in Wildcat Canyon San Diego, and also in Multh Valley. Sadly, it is believed that the total amount of homes that will need to be evacuated will continue to rise. Over 274,000 homes have been evacuated so far, according to San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders.

President Bush has declared a federal emergency for seven of the counties in the area, and that will really help to speed up the disaster relief efforts. Fire fighters from Utah and other states will now be brought in to help stop the disaster. Here’s what President Bush had to say, “All of us across this nation are concerned for the families who have lost their homes and the many families who have been evacuated from their homes. We send the help of the federal government.”

So far the wildfires have claimed one life and have injured 42. Almost have of those injured have been on fire crews. Officials are saying that today will be a very difficult day for fire crews trying to contain the fires because the fierce winds are making it very difficult to form fire lines. Excessive cracking and popping is making it nearly impossible.

Right now, officials are saying that getting lives out of the fire’s path is the priority. We will keep you in our hearts, residents of Wildcat Canyon San Diego

Castle Kashan Burned

The wildfires driven by the Santa Ana winds have already devoured multiple structures including Castle Kashan, which is the only castle in Malibu, and the home of Lilly Lawrence. Sadly, the home was up for sale and was listed for $17,000,000.

History Of Castle Kashan

The Castle Kashan was built in 1978 and lost in a fire in 2007.

NYC Taxi Strike

A group of drivers in New York City have joined forces to protest new rules that would require them the perform expensive upgrades in their taxis. This NYC Taxi strike is the second such strike in recent history, the last was in September of this year. The new regulations ask that drivers install equipment that would allow passengers to watch televison, pay with credit cards, and also check their locations using a GPS. The devices would all be made possible by a small screen in the passenger section of the vehicle.
City officials are saying that it’s a lot easier for passengers to pay the drivers with the use of these small devices, but shouldn’t that be up to the driver? The Taxi Workers Alliance called fro the strike, and say that the technology invades the privacy of those driving cabs. The TWA also cited the expense of the devices as a reason the new regulations are unfair.

The TWA reports that the NYC Taxi Strike is being honored by over 75% of New York’s cab drivers. Contacts in the city have reported, however, that it isn’t that difficult to find a taxi in the city today so who knows what the effect of the strike will be.

I guess we’ll see on this one! This move seems very unfair to me. Let’s say you started a Wendy’s in New York City, and you didn’t want to accept credit cards. Should the city be able to require you to accept them? Should they be able to force you to install televisions in your Wendy’s? If you don’t accept credit cards you may not do that well, but isn’t that your decision?

I’m interested to see how the NYC Taxi Strike works out because I think the cause just plain isn’t cool.
