Disney Vacation Club
The Walt Disney Company is going to build a new, 800 room resort on the island of Oahu. Disney will be calling the new resort by the name ‘Disney Vacation Club’. The company has picked up 21 acres of oceanfront land for the project that will be built in the south-wast corner of Oahu. The purchase price of the land was around $143 million.
Disney and Hawaii make a good couple, and it will be interesting to see how this non-theme-park venture will go. The President of the Disney Vacation Club (Jim Lewis) said “Hawaii is just an ideal location for us as we continue to venture outside of the theme-park berm, if you will.”
The project will begin construction early in 2008 and will be ready to open its doors sometime in 2011.
Disney Vacation Club Details
- The club will apparently only feature characters that fit with the geographic location, such as Lili and Stich, which was set in Hawaii.
- The Hawaii Disney Vacation Club will employ about 1,000 people.
- The resort will be Disney’s third stand alone, and first outside of Florida.
- Hawaii was chosen partly because of its Asian proximity
